Author Guidelines

Authors are suggested to carefully read Aims and Scope of the journal before making a submission. It is imperative to carefully read and follow instructions and guidelines below before manuscript preparation. It will help speed-up processing of their manuscript at the journal. All the submissions will initially be assessed by the handling editor. The submission which meet the journal criteria will be assigned to an expert editor who will assess the submission and make a decision to further process the manuscript. 

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission/permissions to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets etc. All authors identified on the submission should must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the manuscript preparation and checklist below to prepare your submission.

Article Types and Submission Modes

The Functional Materials and Polymer Engineering journal accept full length research articles, short communications, reviews and letters/opinions. The journal is a hybrid journal which means authors can choose from the subscription mode and the open access mode. The open access articles, once accepted, shall be freely available for the readers. However, the authors or their funding source shall have to bear the article processing charges (APC) which is free at the moment. There is no APC for the subscription mode articles. However, the subscription charges shall be borne by the readers once the article is published.

Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript should be structured to contain a suitable title, author names and affiliations (use number in superscript where the author name ends and at the beginning of affiliations), abstract (maximum 250 words), introduction, experimental details, results and discussions, conclusions, statements (acknowledgements, funding, conflict of interests, author contributions and ethical statement etc.) and references. Clearly provide name/names of the corresponding authors responsible for pre- and post publication communications. Add the email address and contact details of the corresponding author.

Use standard Times New Roman style and 10 or 12 font sizes. Highlight the significant words with Italic fonts. All the pages should be numbered in sequence beginning from first page. 

All the figures and tables should be numbered in sequence as they appear in the text and should be referred in text accordingly. 

It is author's responsibility to obtain permissions from the authors or the copy right holders for using already published data, figures, schemes, art work and any other copy right material. The actual source should be referred where the materials was reported in the manuscript and in the references section as well. 

Conclusions

The conclusions section should briefly conclude the research with main results and findings. Experimental details, basic theoretical discussions and repetitive description should be avoided. However, it is imperative to add conclusive remarks with formed concept and/or theory. The authors are advised to keep section brief and conclude it within two to three paragraphs.    

Acknowledgements and Contributions

All the important contributors should be duly acknowledged in the acknowledgements. Authors can also add statement of contributions separately and it can be placed after conclusions section and before the references. Furthermore, author contribution statement is mandatory for this journal. It is mandatory to add details about all the funding sources for the research in the funding statement. If the research/study did not receive any grant or funding, authors should add the "Source of Funding: None" in the funding statement section.  

References

The references are usually placed at the end of manuscript. All the references should be cited in the text using square brackets and numbered in sequence. They should similarly be added in references section using the square brackets. The citation management software users, i.e. Endnote or Mendeley, can use IEEE style. The web references should include author names, title, publisher name and the date when the website was referred.    

Suggested Reviewers

The authors are required to suggest three potential reviewers. Reviewer names, affiliations, highest qualifications and email addresses should be given on the title page of the manuscript. However, selection of the reviewers for the submissions is editor's decision. 

Short Communications

For a short communication use single space, Times New Roman and 10 font size text. Maximum number of pages for the short communications  are four pages and maximum number of figures and tables (in total) are limited to five. Authors are suggested to limit the total number of words to 4000. Similarly, the number of words for the abstract should be limited to 200 for this format of submission. 

Opinions

Opinions are in most cases invited submissions. However, interested authors can contact the Journal Management. The opinions should limit to maximum two pages. A maximum of two figures can be incorporated if deemed necessary. For preparation, 10 or 12 font size (Times New Roman) with 1.5 or double line spacing. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript follows standard format and contents i.e. Title, Author Names and Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methodology, Results and Discussions, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, Statements (i.e. Author Contribution and Conflict of Interests etc.) and References. 
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness. All the references have been cited in the text and listed in the references section.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered sequentially, labelled and referred in the text.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission. 
  • The submission has been spell checked and grammar checked.
